Food Bags for Summer Student Aid Program

Lunch copyEvery student looks forward to school ending and summer break. But for a surprising large group of local students this can be a time of increased risk for food insecurity.  20% of our area’s students receive reduced or free breakfast and lunch at school.   Their parents may struggle to meet the increase food needs throughout the summer months.  To help these families, Keystone’s Food Pantry has created the Summer Aid Program to provide “kid-friendly food” to enrolled pantry participants throughout the summer.

We are reaching out to our faithful Keystone Food Pantry donors for assistance in meeting this need by donating “kid –friendly” food bags to help these children.   Presently there are over 450+ students registered for the Keystone Food Pantry. We want to make sure each child has all the food they need this summer.  Here is how you can help.

Please fill a reusable shopping bag with these types of items:

  • Macaroni & Cheese (Microwavable)
  • Juice boxes, drink mixes (no bottles please)
  • Breakfast Cereal (Family Size)
    • Peanut Butter and Jelly
    • Crackers, animal crackers, cookies
    • Fruit Snacks
  • Granola & cereal bars
  • Tuna (3 cans) & Mayo (small jar)
  • Pudding & Fruit cups
  • Granola & cereal bars
  • Microwaveable Meals : SpaghettiO’s (meatballs & raviolis) in flip top containers.
  • 2 cans of chicken noodle soup
  • Pretzels

Thank you so much for your willingness to help these students and their families who need our support to have a healthy and safe summer. We are requesting that kid friendly food bags be dropped off at Keystone’s Food Pantry by June 24. This will ensure the children have them as soon as possible. This is a great way to introduce your children to helping others.   Maybe you want to consider doing the Summer Aid Program food drive as a neighborhood project, summer sports team or as a project for your office staff.

If your schedule does not allow you to shop but you would still like to donate please visit www.keystoneopportunity.org/summeraid/.  Your donation of $25 will aid a child for one week, $100 will aid a child for 1 month and $300 will aid a child for the whole summer.
