Keystone Opportunity Center is excited to announce our very first Community Garden! In partnership with Zwingli Church, this initiative creates a shared space where community members, partners, and neighbors can come together to grow fresh, healthy produce.
All produce grown through this garden will directly benefit the community, helping to support individuals and families in need. Produce will be given to Food Accessibility Services within Keystone Opportunity Center, our Food Pantry which has shelf stable, frozen, and fresh foods available to visit once a month and giving food for two weeks, and our weekly Fresh produce distribution, Fresh for All.
Participants can take part in a variety of activities, including planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting. As the program grows, we hope to expand both our volunteer opportunities and the impact of the garden.
At its core, this initiative is about teaching and encouraging self-sufficiency while strengthening our community through collaboration and shared purpose.
This garden site will also host Seed to Supper, a free six-week program through Penn State Extension. This hands-on course is designed to help individuals, specifically our Food Pantry Neighbors, learn how to successfully grow their own food. Topics include soil health, planting, and harvesting, providing practical knowledge that participants can use long after the program ends.
Please keep in mind that class size is limited and attendee priority will be given to Keystone Neighbors. This course runs seasonally, please reach out to Pantry Staff if you are interested in attending!
